I was there, grew up in the area - opened with S.S. Kresge, Winchell's Donuts, and Thrifty (Loved the 5 cent scoop. When I was in Jr. High they had "The House of Humor" where my neighbor Frank was the store manager. Also the original location of A B & B Electronics and our first Tustin Pet Shop.

My grandfather did electrical work here during WWII before joining the US Army Signal Corps. My aunt told me he would take his kids here in later years to show off some of his handiwork dotted around the base. Growing up in OC myself, these hangers were a familiar and beloved sight from the 5.

I sorely miss this place - I spent many a day, month and several years running, walking and working across it's expanse - it was an important part of my life serving the United States Marine Corps at this wonderful place. She will be missed...

There's a sad sort of clanging
From the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nurs'ry an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "coocoo".
Regretfully they tell us,
But firmly they compel us
To say goodby to you.
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.

I believe it's Larwin Square. I was there on opening day, 1968 I believe. There's nothing quite like listening to the Calliope that they brought from Knott's. It's awesomely LOUD!
